Conventional core barrel B – 66B

The 66B conventional core barrel belongs to Technidrill’s range of single, type-B core barrels. Purpose-built for drilling in homogeneous formations, it suits applications where full core preservation is secondary. Thanks to its inner-tube-less architecture, this conventional core barrel enables rapid drilling with an excellent cost/performance ratio—ideal for soil reconnaissance at shallow to medium depths within geotechnical investigations.

Key specifications – conventional core barrel B

  • Type: conventional core barrel, type B
  • Model diameter: 66 mm
  • Available lengths: 500 mm, 1,000 mm, 1,500 mm, 3,000 mm
  • Core barrel head: available separately for replacement or adaptation
  • Design: no inner tube, fewer mechanical parts for simplified servicing

Advantages of the 66B conventional core barrel B

  • Lower cost per drilled meter: streamlined design and limited consumables versus more complex systems.
  • Higher cadence: increased penetration rate driven by the bit’s reduced cutting surface.
  • Easy handling: light, manageable assembly—effective for repeated operations in compact ground.
  • Reduced maintenance: fewer wear parts, less downtime, and smoother planning.

Limitations of use

As with any type-B conventional core barrel without an inner tube, the 66B is intended for cohesive, homogeneous formations. In heterogeneous, loose, or water-saturated soils, the absence of an inner tube does not protect the core and may affect sample integrity during extraction. In such conditions, choose a core barrel that provides core retention in mixed ground.

Recommended applications

This type-B core barrel is well suited to geotechnical reconnaissance in homogeneous ground, especially on high-cadence sites and at shallow to medium depths. It fits repetitive workflows where cost control and productivity are critical, offering quick setup, streamlined logistics, and consistent performance aligned with soil investigation requirements.
